Question

  • When both ECMP and SDWAN traffic distribution profiles are active on the same interfaces, which one is prioritized?

Environment

  • Strata Firewalls
  • PANOSĀ
  • SDWAN
  • ECMP

Answer

  1. SDWAN traffic distribution profile is prioritized over ECMP.
  2. If ECMP is enabled, it will be disregarded.
  3. Consider the following configuration as an example:
    • If two interfaces with ECMP enabled are configured with different SDWAN-tags.
    • The SDWAN traffic distribution profile operates using a top-down mechanism.
    • When SDWAN makes a routing decision, it matches the traffic to the vif (logical SDWAN interface), and within the vif, there are entries for both interfaces.
    • Consequently, all link selections will be determined based on the SDWAN traffic distribution profile.
