Symptom

  • Installed Forward Trust certificate in the PC to facilitate SSL decryption.
  • Simulated Android phone from the Android Studio simulator application.
  • Decryption is working correctly when accessing websites from the PC browser.
  • Decryption is failing when accessing from the simulated phone browser.

Environment

  • Prisma Access or NGFW firewall
  • GlobalProtect (GP) App

Cause

  • Forward Trust certificate is not installed in the simulated Android phone.
  • Simulated Android phone works as its own device and does not inherit cert store from the local PC where it is simulated.

Resolution

  1. Follow Google documentation on how to install certificates in the Android phone.
  2. Install the Forward Trust cert in the simulated phone.
  3. Verify that cert will be persistent with PC reboot as long as the phone is not de-provisioned.
