"License for feature url-filtering expired" message is seen on the device with a valid advanced URL filtering license

Symptom


  • The firewall has a valid advanced URL filtering license.
  • System logs (show log system) still report  "License for feature url-filtering expired".

xx:xx:xx critical general  general 0  License for feature url-filtering expired on xxxx/xx/xx

 


Environment


  • Palo Alto Firewall or Panorama
  • PAN-OS 9.0 or later
  • URL Filtering license


Cause


The License key of standard URL filtering is still residing in the device.

Resolution


  1. Delete the standard url-filtering license key from the device using the command "> delete license key PAN_DB_URL_Filtering*.key"
  2. Now the message is not seen anymore.
Note:
  • The standard URL Filtering is replaced with  Advanced URL Filtering.
  • This license can be seen under  Device > Licenses as "Palo Alto Networks Advanced URL License".
