How to Retrieve License on the firewall via CLI

Environment


  • Palo Alto Networks Device
  • PAN-OS


Procedure


The user must be an admin user who can delete/retrieve the licenses via CLI as the non admin users will not have the privileges to perform the following steps:
  1. Log on to the firewall via SSH.
  2. Delete old license key on firewall as mentioned in the steps below:
    1. List the current installed license files by running the command delete license key > delete license key ?
    2. Delete the license key file with the following command  > delete license key <license name>  (Note: The Tab key can be used to auto-complete the file name.)
    3. Confirm the deletion by executing the following command and the expired license should no longer be listed  > request license info
  3. Retrieve license key if the firewall has internet connection:
    1. Option 1 Using the Web UI:
      1. Select the device tab, then the license link in the left column.
      2. Select the retrieve license
    2. Option 2 Fetch the licenses using the following CLI command:
      1. > request license fetch
  4. Upload license key manually if the firewall does not have internet connection:
    1. If the firewall does not have internet connection, manually download the license key from Customer Support Portal:
      1. (Assets > Devices > filter by SN > click the download icon next to the License name in the License column to download the License key.
      2. Upload the License key from your system to the firewall (Device > Licenses > Manually upload license key).
