This article explains the states of cluster members. The members can be stand alone or part of an Active/Passive or Active/Active HA pair.

Cluster States

-- Cluster state transitions can be tracked in system logs.
-- There are 5 states showing the status of cluster membership. Only the state "cluster-suspended" is not seen on standalone members of the cluster.

Cluster States

cluster-unknown → It is the initial state on the device seen after boot/config change
cluster-initial → In the second phase of a commit, clustering state starts.
cluster-active  → This is the state when clustering state is active.
cluster-non-functional → If path-monitor or link-monitor detects failure, then the state becomes "cluster-non-functional". Passive peer in an Active/Passive HA pair is always in "cluster-non-functional" state
cluster-suspended →  This state is seen when one of the HA peers is suspended manually or the cluster meeber is restarted.  For PA-7050 and PA-7080 platforms there is also another suspend option which is “Suspend HA cluster on Slot Failure” which can be enabled under Clustering Settings.

Cluster states are logged in system log
