Question

When configuring SNMPv3 Traps for Palo Alto firewalls in high-availability, what value to set in EngineID?

Environment

  • All PanOS firewalls in high-availability.
  • SNMPv3 Trap server profile.

Answer

  1. The Engine ID allows to uniquely identify the SNMP engines and entities apart from each other.
  2. For firewalls in a high availability (HA) configuration, leave the field blank so that the SNMP manager can identify which HA peer sent the traps; otherwise, the value is synchronized and both peers will use the sameĀ
    EngineID.
