Question

What is the difference between standard commit and commit force?

Environment

Firewall
PAN-OS

Answer

Commit vs Commit force
- A standard commit pushes the difference between the current running configuration and the candidate configuration
- A commit force causes the entire configuration to be parsed and pushed to the dataplane

Commit force can be a helpful troubleshooting step to verify the current candidate configuration is completely pushed to the dataplane.

This should not be required for day to day operations but should be reserved for working through problems
