Configure a Static Route in Virtual Routers

Objective


To configure a static route on the firewall.

Environment


  • Platform: PA-VM and Hardware Firewall
  • PAN-OS/Plugin Version: 8.1.x and above
  • Deployment: Existing


Procedure


The procedure is documented in the admin guide. Refer to Configuring a Static Route. This KB provides the GUI information.
  1. Login to PAN-OS
  2. Go to Network Tab

  1. Go to Virtual Routers and click on the router that needs the route

  1. Go to Static Routes

  1. Click Add

  • Name the Route
  • Select which Interface will be egressing
  • Select if a Next hop is needed or if it is going to another Virtual Router
    • If a Virtual Router next hop is needed in the dropdown below the Next hop, select next Virtual Router
    • If a Next Hop IP is needed in the field below enter the IP of the next hop
    • If it is a directly connected network, select None for the next hop
  • Enter the subnet near the top for the subnet you wish to do. (Note: unless the route entry is one IP address and a /32 bit cider you can enter any IP address, But if the subnet is any more it must be the network IP. Example 10.0.0.0/8 and not 10.0.0.1/8 doing so will result in an error when you click OK.)

  1. Click OK to save and close Virtual Routers settings
  2. Commit
