Question

  • Per PAN-OS 9.0 documentation, it is stated that it is possible to use '*' and '^' operators as wildcards in custom categories and URL EDLs, but it is not allowed to use both at the same time:
So is both '*' and '^' operators as wildcards allowed in PAN-OS 9.1 and above?

Environment

  • PAN-OS 9.1
  • PAN-OS 9.2
  • PAN-OS 10.0
  • URL Category Exceptions with *' and '^' operators as wildcards

Answer

Yes, you can use URL Category Exceptions with *' and '^' operators as wildcards  This behavior was enhanced in 9.1+ and now it is possible to use both operators at the same time as wildcard in an URL configuration.
