Question


Any show command via the CLI display the error:  "Server error : Timed out while getting config lock. Please try again."

CLI error:

Similar message is seen in GUI as well:
"Timed out while getting config lock. Please try again."

Environment


  • PAN-OS 8.0 and above.
  • Any Palo Alto Firewall.
  • Any Panorama.


Answer


Restart management server by running the below command:
> debug software restart process management-server
If the issue is still seen, reach out to TAC while referencing this article for further troubleshooting.
 


Additional Information


  • Restarting the management server process usually doesn't impact packet forwarding, except for the fact that it will log out the administrator. It is always advisable to carry out any process restarts during off-peak hours or within a designated maintenance window.
