Symptom


  • Tunnel interface configured with no IP Address.
  • OSPF is configured on the interface.
  • Commit fails with error message "OSPFv2 is not supported on unnumbered interface tunnel.xx" 
"Changes to configuration in device and network
In virtual-router default, OSPFv2 is not supported on unnumbered interface tunnel.xx in area 0.0.0.0.
Configuration is invalid" 


Environment


  • Palo Alto Firewalls
  • Supported PAN-OS
  • OSPF
  • Tunnel Interface


Cause


To have the tunnel interface participate in OSPF, it should be configured with an an IP address.



Resolution


  1. Assign an IP address to have the tunnel interface participate in OSPF.
    OR
  2. Remove the tunnel interface from the OSPF area, so that the tunnel interface does NOT participate in OSPF.
