Symptom


Error message  "Internal error during commit process" is seen  when attempting to import a Legacy mode configuration into VM running panorama mode.

Environment


  • Panorama VM running on VMware ESXi
  • PAN-OS 8.1, 9.0 and 9.1 

Cause


  • This is due to Elastic Search (ES) holding a large amount of memory up to 8G RAM  or more, which deprives another process (such as configd) of running properly.
  • These errors will most likely appear if the Log-Collector with a large number of firewall configured (~30 Firewalls or more).
  • The issue is seen when the installed RAM is not the recommended value of 32G (displayed below)

Resolution


Add additional memory to the recommended value of 32G RAM for VM Panorama and re-import the configuration. Refer Setup Prerequisites for the Panorama Virtual Appliance
