How to resolved "Failed to install licenses. Auth code already in use"

Objective


  • This error is generated when try to Retrieve licenses keys from licenses server:

Environment


  • Palo Alto Firewall or Panorama
  • Supported PAN-OS


Procedure


Option1: Retrieve license keys from server.

  1. Login to the firewall > Device  > License >Retrieve licenses keys from licenses server.

Option2: Trigger updates from server.

  1. Login to  the Firewall > Device Tab > Software > scroll to bottom of page
  2. Click on  "Check Now" this will  trigger an update of the license expiration dates.

Option3: Manually download the licenses key from the Support Portal and then manually upload to the firewall.

  1. Login to the Support Portal.
  2. Go to Assets > Devices
  3. Filter by serial number (Serial XXXXXXXXXXX)
  4. Download the license key.
  5. Then go to the Firewall> Devices tab > Licenses> Manually Upload License Key

Option4: Delete the expired licenses and re-fetch the new license

  1. Delete the old/expired license from the CLI :
admin@test(passive)> delete license key WildFire_License_20*
successful
  1. Confirm the licenses are deleted 
admin@test(passive)> > request license info
  1. Fetch the licenses from the license server
>request license fetch
  • To Fetch the licenses using GUI Click on Devices > Licenses > Retrieve license keys from license server
  • If those steps does not works , Try Reboot during a maintenance window or Open a Support case.

From the GUI Click on Devices > Licenses > Retrieve license keys from license server
