Alibaba Cloud: Upon attaching ENI, the interface on firewall remains down

Symptom


  • Upon attaching Elastic Network Interface (ENI) to PA-VM instance running in Alibaba Cloud, PAN-OS dataplane interface state remains down.

  • Check the interface status via WebUI.
  • Review System Logs to understand the failure event (GUI: Monitor > Logs > System).

  • Notice we do not see any logs related to ethernet1/1

Environment


  • Platform: PA-VM on Alibaba Cloud.
  • PAN-OS / Plugin Version: Any

Cause


PA-VM instances do not see the vNIC’s attached while it is running.

Resolution


Perform a PAN-OS reboot (GUI: Device > Setup > Operations > Reboot Device)
