Unable to assign static IP to dataplane interfaces in Alibaba Cloud

Symptom


  • Unable to reach out to the internet from the VM-series firewall. Assigning static IP leads to commit failure.

Environment


  • Platform: PA-VM on Alibaba Cloud.
  • PAN-OS / Plugin Version: Any

Cause


VM-Series firewall deployed in Alibaba cloud does not allow static IP assignment.

Resolution


  1. Configure the interface as a DHCP client
  2. Note that in Alibaba Cloud, the gateway is the 3rd last IP of the subnet unlike other cloud providers.
