Why does the runtime stat display ospf interface as passive when the configuration is not set to passive

Question


When viewing OSPF configuration, runtime stats display ospf interface as passive when the interface is not configured as passive.

OSPF interface Passive option is not selected in the configuration
GUI : Network > Virtual Routers > OSPF > Area > Select Area > Interface > Select Interface

OSPF Runtime Stats displays interface is set to passive as seen below.
GUI : Network > Virtual Routers > More Runtime Stats

Environment


  • Palo Alto Firewall.
  • Any PAN-OS.
  • OSPF configured in non-passive mode.


Answer



The issue is seen when the interface IP address is set to host address (/32 subnet). To resolve, edit the interface configuration and correct the subnet mask.

GUI : Network > Interfaces > Ethernet > Interface

Additional Information


If an interface configured without subnet mask, it will be treated as a host interface (/32 subnet).
