How to Register and Activate an Eval Hardware Serial Number

Objective


This guide will walk a user through the steps required to register their Evaluation hardware serial number in the Palo Alto Networks Customer Support Portal.

Procedure


Register the device serial number to activate the licenses

  1. Login to the Customer Support Portal at https://support.paloaltonetworks.com
  2. In the navigation menu on the left side of the screen, click Products then Assets.

  3. Find the blue Account Actions button on the right side of the page, hover your cursor over it, and select Register Product.

  1. Select the option Register device using Serial Number and click Next

  1. In the Serial Number field, enter the device serial number from the Hardware Evaluation Approved email that you received for the eval request.
  2. (Optional) Device Name: use this field to enter a description of the device for your own reference
  3. (Optional) Device Tag: Use this field you would like to add a special device tag to identify a group of devices.

  1. Enter the physical location information for where the device is being used.
  2. Review the EULA and EUSA published at https://www.paloaltonetworks.com/legal.
  3. If you agree, click the Agree and Submit button.
  4. (Optional) Click Run Day 1 Configuration to create a sturdy baseline configuration that IronSkillet and Best Practice Assessment configurations can build on.
  5. If you're not creating a Day 1 Configuration file, click Skip this step.

Retrieve the licenses on the device

Now that the device licenses have been activated, you will need install them on the device itself. There are two methods for doing so depending on whether the device is connected to the internet or not.
 
  • Device has internet connection
    1. Login to the management web interface for your device
    2. ​​​​​​​Select the Device tab at the top of the screen.
    3. Select Licenses in the left navigation menu.
    4.  Click Retrieve license keys from license server.
    5. Verify the licenses have successfully activated.

 

  • Device is not connected to the internet
  1. In the Support Portal, go to Products > Assets.
  2. Locate the device serial number that you registered in the previous steps, and expand the license details for that device.
  3. Click the icon for Licenses & Subscriptions

  4. In the Actions column, click the download icon next to each license to download the individual key files for your device.
  5. Login to the management web interface for your device.
  6. Select the Device tab at the top of the screen.
  7. Select Licenses in the left navigation menu.
  8. Click Manually upload license key.
  9. Upload all of the individual key files.
  10. Verify the licenses have successfully activated.
