Question


  • How does the firewall which  has Valid Threat Prevention License, but still unable to update dynamic threat updates with error below:
"Failed to update content with following message: encfilesize is xxxx
No threat content update is applied. No valid Threat prevention license.
exiting with 255"

get fixed.


Environment


  • Palo Alto Networks firewall
  • Valid threat license but still can't install threat updates


Answer


Please follow below steps for resolution:

1.Check is if the device has valid threat license under Device-->Licenses
  • If it is showing expired, check your license on support portal.
  • If the license is valid on support portal but showing expired on the device, then check if there is any conflicting license key present on the device and delete it. 
2. To delete license key :
> delete license key (press tab)
Select old expired license key and delete it.
 
3. Now, retrieve license again from Device-->Licenses

4. Verify you are able to fetch license now and update your threat database.
