Question

Does Palo Alto Networks provide support for Ansible modules via the Technical Assistance Center (TAC) or regular support options?

Environment

Ansible is an open-source automation tool, or platform used for tasks such as:

  • configuration
  • management
  • application deployment
  • intraservice orchestration
  • provisioning

The Advantages of Ansible are:

  • Free - it is an open-source tool.
  • Simple - no special coding skills necessary to set up and use.
  • Powerful - Ansible lets you model even highly complex IT workflows.
  • Flexible - it can be orchestrated and customized based on the need no matter where deployed.
  • Agentless - no need for software installs or firewall ports on client systems to be automated.
  • Efficient - without the need for software installs, there's more room for application resources on the server.

Answer

As of version 2.12.2, the Collection of Ansible Modules for PAN-OS is certified on Ansible Automation Hub and officially supported for Ansible subscribers. Ansible subscribers can engage for support through their usual route towards Red Hat.

For Palo Alto Networks customers who are not Red Hat paying customers and who are using the free versions of Ansible, these scripts should be seen as community supported and Palo Alto Networks will contribute our expertise as and when possible. They should raise their issues in the GitHub repository https://github.com/PaloAltoNetworks/pan-os-ansible/issues. If they wish to escalate their issue, they should do so via their respective Palo Alto Networks Sales/Account Team.

Please note that we only provide technical support for the PAN-OS Collection to Red Hat paying customers exclusively via TSANet. For all other Palo Alto Networks customers who are not paying Red Hat customers, we do not provide technical support or help in using or troubleshooting the components of the project through our normal support options such as Palo Alto Networks support teams (TAC), or ASC (Authorized Support Centers) partners and backline support options. The underlying product used (the VM-Series firewall) by the scripts or templates are still supported, but the support is only for the product functionality and not for help in deploying or using the template or script itself.

Additional Information

  • For additional information on the Palo Alto Networks Ansible Galaxy role documentation, please reference the following link: https://galaxy.ansible.com/ui/repo/published/paloaltonetworks/panos
  • You can find also find more info on our community page here https://pan.dev/ansible/docs/panos
  • Ansible subscribers can engage for support through their usual route towards Red Hat. If the ticket with Red Hat goes through their support level 1 and 2, and they determine the root cause to be an issue with the PAN-OS Collection, they will use TSANet to create a corresponding ticket with Palo Alto Networks. The subject will be TSANet Collaboration Request from Red Hat. This ticket should be routed to the PS Scale Team in EMEA for them to work on the issue and determine a fix or workaround.
