VM-Series Firewall Error: Only vmxnet3 network adapter type supported""

Issue

When the Palo Alto Networks virtual machine is configured with an interface type other than vmxnet3 interfaces, it does not successfully boot. Before going into a reboot cycle, the following error messages are displayed:

The VM-Series firewall will eventually boot into Maintenance Mode with the following reason: "VM resource failure."

Cause

Palo Alto Networks VM-Series firewall will fail to boot successfully if all network interfaces are not of type, vmxnet3.

Resolution

1. Power off the VM-Series firewall from the VM hypervisor.
2. Remove interfaces that are configured with any types other than vmxnet3.
3. Re-add them with the type vmxnet3, if necessary.
4. Power on the VM-Series firewall from VM hypervisor.
