How to View Number of Search Engine Queries with Custom Reports

Overview

The following example of URL logs shows searches made on the term "hello" for different search engines:

This document describes the steps to view the number of times a search engine query has been made using custom reports.

 

Steps

  1. Go to Device > Monitor > Manage Custom Reports and create a report
  2. Under Query Builder, enter the search engine url patterns for search queries.
    The following image applies Yahoo, Bing and Google search engines. More can be added as needed.

  3. Run the report by clicking Run Now.
  4. View the results to see how many hits were seen for each source search engine. The example below shows the IP address of the source host.

Note: In the URL profile, disabling log container page only would give all the links opened by a search query and not just the main url. Also, if the search is made through HTTPS then the logs will not be generated unless decryption is enabled.
