How is the HA2 IP Information Communicated Between Peers When HA2 UDP/IP Transport is Enabled?

Issue

In a high-availability (HA) configuration it is possible to use either UDP or IP transport mode for the HA2 link. In these modes, an IPv4/IPv6 address is required to be assigned to the interface, but it is not possible to configure the peer's IP address information. How does one device determine the peer's HA2 IP address?

Resolution

The HA2 configuration is communicated between devices via the HA1 link. Unlike the HA2 link configuration, the HA1 link always operates with IP transport and requires both a local address and a peer address to be defined. Once the HA1 link is brought up each device advertises its own HA2 configuration so the HA2 link can be brought up.
