Resolution

By default the maximum number of software and/or dynamic updates images that Panorama or NGFW can hold is 5.

The default value can be modified from the CLI using the following command:

> set max-num-images count x ( x can be any number between 2 to 64)

This command sets a hard limit on the number of software and/or dynamic updates images stored in the Panorama or firewall's repository.

When a new update is downloaded, if it reaches the configured maximum value, the firewall automatically purges the oldest version that is not currently installed or in use.

The currently configured value can be checked using the following CLI command:

> show max-num-images

Additional Information

The max-num-images value applies to PAN-OS software images, Antivirus updates, WildFire updates, and Application/Threat updates independently.

The current and previously installed dynamic update version are always saved and they are not counted towards the max-num-images value.

Decreasing the configured max-num-images value does not remove the existing images immediately, unless you download a new one and reaches the limit.
