Overview

When the cursor rolls over the "bracket" to the left of the members in an HA pair, it shows "HA master device" and "HA peer device". What do they mean?

Answer

The Palo Alto Networks devices listed inside of the Managed Devices tab are ordered by HA pair and serial numbers. The lower serial number will always be first with the label as 'HA master device'.  The second device, with the higher serial number, will be listed with the label 'HA peer device'. There is no other functional meaning with the labeling of peer and master devices.

Note: Master and peer device designation has no correlation with which device is Active or Passive in an HA Pair.
