How to resolve "Portal Error. Check version failed"

Symptom

When attempting to use GlobalProtect on a computer running a software firewall, it is possible that a "Portal Error. Check version failed" error occurs if the firewall is blocking the GlobalProtect connection.

Environment
  • Pan-OS
  • Globalprotect App


Resolution

 

When disabling the firewall is not an option, the following two ports need to be allowed through for GlobalProtect to connect and work properly

  • TCP/443 for the SSL communication
  • UDP/4501 for tunnel communication to the GlobalProtect Gateway
