Using Captive Portal with HTTP/HTTPS Proxy

Issue

Captive Portal with redirect does not work when http/https proxy is used. When Captive Portal redirect is used, the web browser will also proxy the Captive Portal page session. The user would either see an "Unable to open the page" (Internet Explorer) or "connection was reset" (FireFox) message.

 

Resolution

Configure an exception for Captive Portal redirect interface on the browser.

 

On Firefox, go to the following page and configure the exception: Tools > Options > Network > Settings.

(The redirect interface used for captive portal is 192.168.51.1)

 

Chrome and Internet Explorer browsers share common proxy settings. Configure the exception on Chrome and Internet Explorer at: Tools > Internet Options > Connection > LAN settings > Proxy Server > Advanced > Exceptions:
