This article explains the meaning of messsage 'Unable to save content info file' while installing content version on the Palo Alto Networks firewall.

This message means that information regarding the content, such as Features, Size, Release Date, etc .could not be installed on the firewall. This message is harmless and just means that information could not be saved hence, all this type of information is listed as "Unknown" under Device > Dynamic Updates.

This message is observed when dynamic updates are installed manually by downloading the file from the support website.

It is generally observed in the following scenarios:

  • A first-time installation of content version is done on the firewall and this installation is manual
  • There is a content version installed on the firewall but it was also done manually and upgrade to content version is also done manually

The message would be observed with each manual installation unless dynamic updates are performed directly from the firewall by connecting to the update server (i.e. firewall having internet connection to perform dynamic updates).
