In this week's Discussion of the Week, we are going to focus on an article from user 'amedley' about configuration migration.

In this discussion, amedley is New to Palo Alto Network devices and needs to migrate the configuration from a Cisco ASA firewall to PAN.

Migrating a configuration can be a very involved process, unless you are lucky enough to have a device with only 10 rules that need to be "moved" over to the PAN device. In those rare exceptions, one more than likely will not trouble themselves with any "migration", short of taking the time to just create everything from scratch.

Now, in the event where you have 500 rules, and thousands of objects, groups, ip addresses, etc., then spending the time to create everything by hand is a tedious process, just ask me, I have done it before, and it is easy to miss something.

When you are facing such a huge task, then to be able to have a tool to help is priceless.

Well, you are in luck, because we do have a Migration tool for that purpose.  It also can be used to backup configurations as well as help move configurations between boxes easier.  This tool is called the "Migration Tool", and it can be downloaded here:

2017-02-27_migration-page.pngMigration Tool page with the download, user guides, discussion forum and even Videos on how it all works.

Now, not only is the tool available there, but there is also a huge resource of articles and discussions all about the use and support of the Migration tool. There are even videos to watch. (Note: Please do not call in to support for help with the Migration tool, as TAC does not support this tool, and is supported by the online Migration Tool community.)

If you are needing to migrate a config or just want to learn more about the migration tool, then I would recommend you spending some time there.

Thanks for reading, and as always, if you have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to comment below or in the feedback forum here:
