Traps Compatibility: NSM (Network and Security Manager)

Symptom


When Traps is installed, Juniper Networks NSM (Network and Security Manager) does not launch because of the following error: "Could not create the Java virtual machine."

Resolution


Configure Maximum Heap Size in NSM.lax file
  1. Navigate to NSM.lax file, located in the Network and Security Manager directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Network and Security Manager
  2. Locate and open the NSM.lax file in Notepad
  3. Find the following line: lax.nl.java.option.java.heap.size.max=1280
  4. Edit the line to: lax.nl.java.option.java.heap.size.max=768

  5. Save and close changes
  6. Restart system
  7. Confirm connection to ESM server by clicking "Check-in now" on the Traps Console and then relaunch NSM
