Symptom
When migrating the database to which the Endpoint Security Manager is connected, you need to point both the ESM core and ESM console to the new database address.

Resolution

Overview

The product consists of two Hibernate.cfg files that represent the connection string for the ESM core and ESM console to connect to the database.

On the ESM server, the Core Hibernate.cfg file is located here:

  • C:\Program Files\Palo Alto Networks\Endpoint Security Manager\Server\

On the ESM server, the Console Hibernate.cfg file is located here:

  • C:\Program Files\Palo Alto Networks\Endpoint Security Manager\Web\bin\

Please note that if multiple cores or consoles are installed, the following steps need to be taken on each of the Hibernate files.

Steps

In order to change the DB server or the DB name, follow the steps below:

  1. Stop all ESM core and IIS services.
  2. Backup the DB.
  3. Migrate the DB to its new location. It is recommended to leave a copy of the old DB in place until this process is complete.
  4. Edit the Hibernate.cfg files in the following fields.
    Data Source = SQL server
    Catalog = DB name
    hibernt.png
  5. Restart services.
