Procedure


Overview

This document describes the steps to enable Router Advertisement (RA) on an IPv6 interface and to enable advertisement of the IPv6 prefix.

 

Router advertisement (RA) is introduced in IPv6 and is used for StateLess Address Auto Configuration (SLAAC).  RA is used to inform clients about the prefix, subnet, and other related information used on the network. The client can use the RA messages to auto configure their network settings.

 

Steps

  1. Go to Network > Interfaces.
  2. Click on the interface where you want to enable Router Advertisement.
  3. Enable router advertisement "globally" on the interface (see screenshot below).

  4. With RA enabled globally, the following RA message will appear on the client:

  5. To advertise the IPv6 prefix, it must be enabled by checking the Send RA checkbox (see screenshot below):

  6. The RA message will now be similar to the following:
