Symptom


The symptom can be explained with an an example
  • Interface 1/4 is configured with IP address of 192.168.1.1/24
  • Interface 1/6 is configured with IP address of 192.168.1.2/24
  • Commit error is displayed when both the interfaces are in the same virtual router.
In virtual-router default: address 192.168.1.1/24 on interface ethernet1/4 has overlapping subnet with address 192.168.1.2/24 on interface ethernet1/6.(Module routed)

Cause


Overlapping Subnet is not supported unless the interfaces are in different virtual router.

Resolution


  1. Overlapping subnets are supported only when each overlapping interface/sub-interface is in a separate virtual router.
  2. To resolve, Change the IP address of the second interface to a different subnet or move the second interface to a different virtual router.
