Question

When a RMA'ed PA-200 firewall first boot up, it is very likely that the Pan-OS version still in 7.1.x. When attempts upgrading to Pan-OS 8.0.x release following the upgrade path, it usually fail due to an old content release installed.

When attempts to perform content update, it get stuck at 99% and not moving forward:

So, how long does content update normally take on a new PA-200 firewall?

Environment

  • PA-200
  • PAN-OS 7.1, 8.0

Answer

Due to the fact that the content needs to go from an old to the latest version, the download could take up to two hours. When starting the latest content download, it should jump from 0 to 99% and stay there for a long time, but eventually it will finish. Therefore, this is expected.
