Symptom

  • VM Series Panorama nodes configured in High Availability mode. Each with different memory size.
  • When activated, both active and passive devices go into a suspended state due to memory mismatch.
  • Error message: "VM memory size mismatch with peer" is seen on the Web UI.
Error message seen on VM Series Panorama displayed below:

Error message seen on Panorama Active UI.

Environment

  • PAN-OS 8.1, 9.0, and 9.1.
  • Panorama VM running in High Availability (HA) mode.

Cause

  • Both the devices going into a suspended state when the memory sizes are different is an expected behavior
  • Both VM Panorama nodes are required to have matching memory size for High Availability (HA) to form correctly.
  • Memory information can be found in the dashboard when logged into the GUI. In the example below, the memory of Active and Passive nodes are different, causing both devices to go into a suspended state.

Resolution

  1. The solution is to add additional memory so both pairs of VM Panorama will have the same amount of memory.
  2. In the example given above, 4Gig of memory needs to be added to the secondary Panorama to make both devices identical.
  3. To increase the memory size, refer to Increase CPUs and Memory for Panorama on an ESXi Server
